Fun Phonics Activities for Each Letter of the Alphabet

Welcome to this week’s newsletter! Today, we’re excited to share phonics activities for each letter of the alphabet. These fun and engaging activities will help reinforce the sounds of each letter, making learning phonics enjoyable for your child!
Phonics Activities by Letter
A - Apple Art
Activity: Create apple-themed art. Cut out apple shapes and have your child decorate them while saying the /a/ sound.
B - Bubble Blowing
Activity: Blow bubbles and encourage your child to say words that start with /b/, like "ball," "bat," and "bug."
C - Caterpillar Crawl
Activity: Have your child crawl like a caterpillar while saying words that begin with /k/, such as "cat," "car," and "cup."
D - Dance Party
Activity: Play music and have a dance party. When the music stops, your child must say a word that starts with /d/, like "dog" or "door."
E - Egg Hunt
Activity: Hide plastic eggs around the house or yard. Inside each egg, place a picture of an object that starts with /e/, such as "elephant" or "egg."
F - Feather Fun
Activity: Use feathers to create words starting with /f/. Have your child glue feathers onto paper while saying the sounds.
G - Garden Exploration
Activity: Go outside and explore your garden. Identify plants and objects that start with /g/, such as "grass" and "garden." If you don’t have a garden, you can do this at your local park.
H - Hat Parade
Activity: Have a hat-making session. While creating hats, encourage your child to think of words that start with /h/, like "hat," "house," and "horse."
I - Ice Cream Imaginary Play
Activity: Pretend to run an ice cream shop. As your child serves imaginary ice cream, have them name items starting with /i/, such as "igloo" and "insect." Ask them would they like insect flavoured ice cream?
J - Jumping Jacks
Activity: Do jumping jacks and say a word starting with /j/ each time they jump, like "jump," "jelly," or "jacket."
K - Kite Flying
Activity: Fly a kite and discuss objects that start with /k/, such as "kite," "kangaroo," and "key." If you cannot fly a kite, make one from paper cute into a kite shape, you could find pictures in magazines that begin with k and stick them on the kite. You could use straws as the cross frame for the kite.
L - Letter Scavenger Hunt
Activity: Go on a scavenger hunt for items around the house that start with /l/, like "lamp," "leaf," and "lion."
M - Musical Statues
Activity: Play musical statues, and when the music stops, your child must freeze and say a word starting with /m/, like "moon" or "monkey."
N - Nature Walk
Activity: Take a nature walk and look for items that start with /n/, such as "nest," "nut," and "nail."
O - Obstacle Course
Activity: Create an obstacle course and have your child shout out words starting with /o/ as they navigate through it.
P - Picture Collage
Activity: Collect pictures of objects that start with /p/ and create a collage, saying each word out loud.
Q - Quiet Time with Quizzes
Activity: Have a quiet quiz where you ask your child to think of words that begin with /q/, like "queen," "quilt," and "quick."
R - Rock Painting
Activity: Paint rocks and write words that start with /r/, such as "rabbit," "rain," and "rocket."
S - Story Time
Activity: Read a story and pause to identify words that start with /s/, like "sun," "star," and "snake."
T - Treasure Map
Activity: Create a treasure map, marking spots with items that start with /t/, like "tree," "turtle," and "toy."
U - Underwater Adventure
Activity: Pretend to explore underwater. Name sea creatures that start with or have the sound /u/ in them, like "urchin" and "walrus."
V - Vegetable Exploration
Activity: Visit a grocery store and identify vegetables, see if you can find any that start with /v/, such as "vine tomatoes."
W - Wildlife Watching
Activity: Go to a park or zoo and identify animals that start with /w/, like "wolf" or "whale." Or have a look in a wildlife book at home or at the library.
X - X-ray Art
Activity: Create “x-ray” art by tracing hands and discussing words that start with or have /x/ in them, like "x-ray" and "box."
Y - Yarn Crafts
Activity: Use yarn to create art while naming words that start with /y/, such as "yarn" and "yellow."
Z - Zoo Adventure
Activity: Visit a zoo or watch a zoo documentary, identifying things that start with /z/, like "zebra" and "zoo."
