✏️ Making Writing Fun: Simple Ways to Encourage Early Writers

September 1st, 2025

Hello, magical parent!

If you’ve ever worried about how to get your child interested in writing, you’re not alone. So many parents have told me, “My child just doesn’t like to write!” Trust me, I get it—sitting down to fill a page with words can feel overwhelming for little ones. There is no magic wand we can wave, but here’s the good news: writing doesn’t need to be a chore!

Today, I want to share a few easy and fun ways to help your child discover the joy of writing—often without them even realizing they’re practicing their skills.

1. Draw, Dream, and Label

Did you know that every picture has a story? and by adding labels you might just pull a chalk drawing to life!

ree
  • When your child creates a masterpiece, sprinkle on some magic by encouraging them to label their drawings: “Is that a dragon by the castle? Let’s write his name together!”

  • Don’t worry about perfect spelling—just enjoy the adventure. You can join in too: “I’ll write ‘cloud’ if you write ‘tree’!”

2. Enchanting Shopping Lists

Turn your shopping list into a magical quest!

ree
  • Invite your little one to help you list what you’ll need for your “feast in the enchanted garden” (or just Tuesday’s dinner).

  • Tiny scribbles, pictures, or a few letters—each one is a spell for growing confidence.

  • In the shop, let them be the brave knight or clever princess who finds each item from the list!

3. Charming Notes & Magical Cards

Who wouldn’t love a note delivered by owl—or by you?

ree
  • Encourage your child to write a secret message to someone special: a grandparent, a friend, or even a favourite stuffed animal.

  • Try: “Dear Teddy, thank you for guarding my dreams!”

  • Not ready to write? Let them tell you what to say, and you write the words—then let them sign with a flourish (and maybe a doodle or two).

4. Treasure Hunt with a Twist

Who would ever say no to a bit of fun!

  • Hide little notes with clues (“Look under the magic hat!”) and send your child off on an indoor adventure.

  • Once they’ve found the treasure, invite them to make their own clues for you.

  • Each note is a mini story—and the giggles are the best reward.

5. Celebrate Every Spell Cast

Remember to cherish every page, celebrate every scribble and scrawl.

  • Hang their writing on the “Hall of Fame” (the fridge!), read their notes aloud, and tell them how proud you are.

  • After all, every word is a step on their journey from the nursery to the grand library.

A Final Sprinkle of Magic…

Writing doesn’t have to be perfect. With a little enchantment, it becomes a joyful adventure—one that builds confidence, creativity, and happy memories along the way.

So grab your imaginary carpet bag, open a fresh notebook, and see where your next writing adventure leads you and your little one. And if you try any of these ideas, I’d love to hear about the magic in your house—just reply and share your stories!
